Women Entrepreneurs Development Council (WEDC),has been putting efforts for the empowerment of Women Entrepreneurs from the Manufacturing, Service Industry, infrastructure, IT, ICT, education, Health Care, Pharmaceutical, exports, entertainment, media, sports, members of family-owned businesses, consulting & Professional Services, automotive, engineering, textiles, garments, food processing, hospitality, tourism, logistics, supply chain, chemicals, metal, plastics, glass, packaging, paper, knowledge based industries and other businesses & industrial fields. The Council organises various business activities for the enhancement of knowledge and skill of women entrepreneurs, supporting them for identifying emerging business opportunities in India and abroad, connectivity with the strategic partners for joint ventures, technology transfers, contract manufacturing, franchise, collaboration, distribution, supply chain management, developing quality productivity and strengthening them to become self-reliant and for global competitiveness.

The WEDC is founded by Shri Chandrakant Salunkhe, who is Founder & President of SME Chamber of India and Start-ups Council of India and successfully functioning under the dynamic leadership of Ms. Saakshi Kulkarni, who has been putting efforts as an Executive Director for the last 15 years. The WEDC is also associated with the Federation of Indian SME Associations, SME Business Management Institute, Start-ups Council of India, SME Technology Development Council, SME Export Promotion Council, Maharashtra Industry Development Association, Gujarat Industry Development Association, SME Investment Promotion Council and SME Business Forum.

The WEDC is on the forefront for policy change framework and policy implementation towards encouraging more entrepreneurship amongst potential women and supporting them to avail various schemes and incentives of the Government Departments and from the financial institutions. The WEDC has also been recognising successful women entrepreneurs by conferring and recognising by presenting national level “Women Entrepreneurship Excellence Awards” for the remarkable achievements and outstanding contributions in their respective fields.
